Bifold Door FAQs
Everything You Need to Know About Our Bifold Doors
What makes a great bifold door?
Three things: how much glass you see, how easily it moves, and how solid it feels when closed. Our Versatali system wins on all three. The sightlines are slim, so a five-panel run is mostly glass. The panels ride on stainless steel rollers, so one finger moves the whole wall. And when you close it, multi-point locks clamp every panel to the frame — it feels, and tests, like a fixed wall.
How many panels do I need?
A rule of thumb: each panel is 700 mm to 1,200 mm wide. A 2-panel bifold suits openings from about 1.8 m. Three or four panels suit the typical 3 m rear opening. Five to seven panels build a full glass wall across a big extension. Odd numbers let one panel work as a traffic door — open it like a normal door for the school run without folding the whole run back.
Will it be cold in winter?
No. Every panel is thermally broken aluminium with argon-filled double glazing and warm-edge spacers. U-values start at 1.2 W/m²K — better than Building Regulations demand — and drop further with triple glazing. The triple gaskets and weather-brushed track keep draughts out even on exposed sites.
Is a bifold secure?
Ours are PAS 24 tested — the British break-in standard. You get multi-point shoot bolts on every panel, anti-lift rollers, internally beaded glass and key-locking handles. Add laminated glass for the highest spec.
Level threshold — no step, no trip
Choose a low aluminium threshold recessed into the floor and the inside flows into the garden with nothing to step over. It is Part M friendly for accessibility, safe for small children, and it makes the space feel twice the size when open.
Supply-only or fitted — your call
Homeowners usually choose supply-and-fit: our in-house team measures, installs, seals and hands over with a 10-year guarantee. Builders and installers buy supply-only at trade prices: frames arrive square, pre-gasketed, sized to the millimetre, with a full technical pack. Same doors, same guarantee, your choice.

About Glazed Window Systems Ltd
One team, one guarantee, one mission - every UK home sealed in aluminium
Glazed Window Systems Ltd is a West Midlands aluminium door and window specialist. We were founded on a simple idea: the UK home deserves better glass. For too many years the default was chunky uPVC, swollen timber frames, and composite front doors that sag after a decade. We wanted to change the default - to make slim, secure, thermally excellent aluminium doors and windows the first choice for every self-builder, every extension, every full renovation, and every forward-looking developer.
We operate from a dedicated fabrication and distribution base in Birmingham, delivering right across the UK. We supply builders and installers on supply-only terms with trade pricing. We also run an in-house install team for homeowners who want a stress-free start-to-finish job. And we partner with a hand-picked network of builders for full kitchen extensions, side-return builds, two-storey extensions, and conservatory roof replacements - projects where glazing is the hero feature.
Everything we sell is Part L compliant. Every door is PAS 24 secure. Every frame is powder coated for a 25-year life. Every installation carries a 10-year guarantee. Those are the basics and we never compromise on them. Beyond the basics we compete on detail - concealed 3D-adjustable hinges, triple gaskets, flush thresholds, astragal bar bonding, soft-close dampers, ekey fingerprint options on front doors. The fiddly details are where a good door beats a cheap door.
Whether you're replacing a single front door, opening up your home with bifold doors, or planning a full extension, our approach is the same: honest advice, quality products, precise installation and no high-pressure sales tactics. We help homeowners, builders and developers choose glazing that looks better, performs better and is built to last.
